Top therapists in New York accepting new patients
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris.
My name is Edili Marleny Maldonado, and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York. I have been working in the mental health field for the past nine years. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, elders, high-risk clients, and clients from different social backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, ages, genders, economic statuses, and mental health disorders.
I have an eclectic approach to therapy. Some approaches that have been consistently receptive with clients are cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, modeling, motivational interviewing, etc., which I generally use. However, I typically prefer to match the clients' needs to specific therapeutic approaches, thereby significantly increasing the effectiveness of treatment.
My desire to help others drove me to work in the mental health field; thus, I strive to help clients improve themselves to lead healthier, fulfilling lives by implementing various coping skills. I aim to empower clients through insight and strategies to enrich their lives further and become self-sufficient in managing their problems, issues, and situations. Thus, clients gain self-awareness, acceptance of self, harmony, and mental balance/equilibrium.
My expertise comprises working with individuals struggling with ADHD, grief/loss, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, panic, stress, and mood disorders. I am also proficient in Spanish and have experience providing treatment in that language.
Let's begin the healthy and healing process together.
The work of therapy entails a deep, genuine engagement with ourselves - at times the unknown or unpleasant parts of ourselves. As with all challenging tasks, therapy is most rewarding when approached with honesty and openness. I have been practicing psychotherapy with individuals and couples for 20 years and I am committed to offering my clients expert and compassionate help on this courageous journey.
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step and I am here to work collaboratively with you in a safe, supportive, and liberated space. I would like to help you feel less alone with difficult feelings and experience a greater sense of self-agency and fulfillment in your life. I have over 10 years of experience and extensive post-graduate training specializing in depression, anxiety, complex trauma, issues related to identity, and I offer particular attunement to individuals who identify as LGBTQAI+.
My background is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy/psychoanalysis and my approach to therapy is determined by the needs of each individual, which will make our time together a powerful space for self-reflection and growth. Our work together will be an opportunity for you to share your pain and perhaps for the first time, feel heard and understood.
My style is warm, active, and deeply nurturing. If you're having difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, struggling from what seems like uncontrollable worry, or feeling lost and isolated, I am happy to connect with you. You can reach me via a phone call, a text, or email at 347-378-7784 and I will get back to you within 24 hours, Monday-Friday.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be heard and seen. I believe that mental health is often overlooked and a lower priority when it comes to health and I believe it is important to challenge that belief and bring attention to what is affecting us mentally and emotionally. Throughout my experience I have worked with a range of clients, from children to older adults, working with clients struggling with depression and anxiety to OCD and Bipolar Disorder. Everyone should have the opportunity to get the help they need and I hope that working together we will be able to identify and work towards building a life that is best for you!
